SRINAGAR

Police has arrested an employee of Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) for allegedly misusing parking receipts for his benefits while police is looking for the kingpin who also happens to be the employee of SMC.

Police sources told CNS that SMC parking located near old Secretariat was operated by Corporation employee, Abdul Rehman. Few days before, a vehicle went missing from the parking lot. Police swung into action after the complainant filed a missing report in police station Shaheed Gunj.

Police sources said that soon after the incident, Abdul Rehman went at large to evade arrest. “We were surprised to observe that Abdul Rehman had assigned the job of parking management to another SMC employee Altaf Ahmed, whom we arrested. Police recovered two kinds of receipts from him and there are ample chances that the duo used to issue fake receipts to the owners of the vehicles, thus draining the exchequer,” DySp Shaheed Gunj, Suresh Kumar told CNS.

He said that the police raided at two places to nab the real culprit Abdul Rehman, however he could not be located.

“We are on job and soon he would be arrested. The police is investigating the matter and hopefully in next day’s things would get clear,” Police official said.

When contacted, one of Municipal official said that action would be initiated against these two employees if it will prove that they used to issue fake receipts. “We are waiting for the police report and I assure you that nobody will be spared,” he said.
