Family members of Kashmiri jail inmates lodged in Jodpur jai held protest demonstrations at Srinagar press enclave on Monday. They demanded their immediate release. They demanded that prisoner’s should be provided adequate security as mentioned in Geneva Convention.

“Court has given clean chit to them in Lajpat Nagar bomb blast case. But still they have not been released. It is a grave violation of laws. We demand their immediate release”, said protestors.  They alleged that these inmates are being harassed and tortured by jail authorities.

Appealing the State government to intervene, the protesters accused Jaipur jail authorities of harassing them.

“In Jaipur jail they are beaten unless they fell unconscious. They have suffered serious injuries and have been shifted to some unknown place,” said a protestor.

Holding placards of Lateef Ahmad Waja son of Ghulam Ahmad Waja and Mirza Nisar Hussain Ahmad Waja son of Ghulam Ahmad Waja of Khankhah Shamswari, the protesters raised slogans demanding respect of human rights and dignity of prisoners.

Appealing the government to take immediate notice of the issue, a protestor said, “We want the case be shifted to Kashmir in order to ensure safety of my child. He is being ruthlessly beaten by the jail authorities.”

They also demanded the release of Masrat Aalam, Dr. Mohammad Qasim Faktoo and other detainees.
