SRINAGAR

In a bid to end their lives a Muslim boy and a girl from minority Sikh community consumed poison after the girl’s family disapproved of their relationship in Saidpora hamlet of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district, a police official told CNS on Thursday adding that both are battling for their lives in Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences Soura Srinagar.

Police said that Ritu Kour, 21, and Shabir Ahmed, 22, (names changed) were reportedly in a relationship for quite some time and both according to locals wanted to enter into wedlock.

“To put an end to this relationship, the father of the girl chose a boy from his own community and the girl was married to him in Srinagar. On the next day, when the newly wedded couple returned to Saidpora Pulwama, the girl secretly met her admirer and both reportedly consumed the poison,” the police said adding that both have been shifted to SKIMS Srinagar for treatment.

“We have registered a case vide FIR number 243/2014 under section 366 of RPC and investigation is going on,” police said. (CNS)
