SRINAGAR: A poor farmer from a remote border village of Mendhar received a severe shock when the Power Development Department (PDD) sent him a whopping electricity bill of Rs 10 crore for the month of May 2020.

“Uninterrupted power supply in this belt is still a distant dream,” The Tribune quoted a local political activist, Nadeem Khan as having said, adding, “One-month electricity bill of Rs 10 crore is a real shock for the poor farmer”.

Mohammed Hanief of Gugran village was sent the bill from the office of the AEE, PDD Mendhar subdivision, two days ago. The bill is for the period of May 1, 2020 to May 31, 2020. The amount mentioned in the bill is Rs 10,08,38,138.00.

The poor villager approached the sarpanch, who brought the matter in the notice of the authorities concerned. Within no time the bill of Rs 10 crore went viral in social media.

The sarpanch along with villagers approached the Tehsildar, Mendhar, and the PDD office as well. Senior PDD officers claimed that it was a computer error, reported The Tribune.
