SRINAGAR: Renowned poet, writer, and former Doordarshan Director Muhammad Farooq Nazki, who passed away on February 06, was laid to rest in his ancestral graveyard in Rainwari, Srinagar om Wednesday.
Hundreds of people attended his funeral prayers held at Ziyarat Sayed Sahib Sonwar. A congregational Fateh Khawani for Muhammad Farooq Nazki will be held on Saturday at 11 am in Rainwari at the ancestral graveyard, followed by a condolence meet at his residence in Shivpora, Srinagar, a family member said.
Known for his thought-provoking writings in both Urdu and Kashmiri, Nazki was a recipient of the Sahitya Akademi Award.
“The congregational Fateh Khwani prayers will be performed on Saturday, February 10, at his ancestral graveyard in Malkah Rainwari, followed by a condolence meet in Shivpora, Srinagar,” said Ayaz Nazki.
Nazki’s demise has been mourned by various sections of civil society, with people in literary circles terming it a void difficult to fill.
To mourn the sad demise of Muhammad Farooq, the Literary Forum Bandipora held a condolence meeting on Wednesday afternoon to pay tribute to the legendary poet. Participants prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul and strength for the bereaved family.
“His creative brilliance found expression in various genres of literature. His works reflect the cultural and existential vicissitudes of Kashmir. He will continue to influence young bards and writers. Deep condolences,” said Mir Tariq Rasool, VP Literary Forum Bandipora.
Meanwhile, a brief condolence meeting was also held at the Office of the Adbi Markaz Kamraz Jammu and Kashmir under the chairmanship of President Muhammad Amin Bhat.
“He will be remembered for his pre-eminent contribution as a poet and as a critic, enriching Kashmiri language and literature profoundly. With his memorable and postmodern poetry, he has left an indelible mark on the hearts of people. Today, the literary world of Kashmir has suffered a great loss,” said Amin Bhat, President AMK JK.
