SRINAGAR: Gul Hassan Wani, father of senior journalist and Kashmir Life editor Masood Hussain was laid to rest Saturday afternoon at his ancestral graveyard in Gehend village of district Shopian in south Kashmir. Led by local Imam, people from all walks of life participated in his funeral prayers held at around 12 in the noon.

Condoling the demise, former chief ministers and National Conference president and vice president Dr Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah expressed their grief, sympathies with the bereaved family. “The party president and vice president condoled the demise of the father of noted journalist and Kashmir Life editor Masood Hussain. The duo expressed sympathies with the bereaved and prayed for forbearance to the family, in particular, Masood Sahib in their hour of grief,” read a party statement.

Among other party leaders, party general secretary Ali Muhammad Sagar, Provincial President Nasir Aslam Wani, party MPs Muhammad Akbar Lone and Hasnain Masoodi ], provincial secretary Showkat Mir, spokesperson Imran Nabi have also expressed their sympathies.

The Peoples Democratic Party in its statement condoled the demise and expressed profound grief. “Profoundly grieved over the demise of Al Hajj Gul Hassan Wani, father of senior journalist Masood Hussain. Allah marhoom sb ko javar e rehmat mein jagah ata farmaye.” Said party in its statement.

PDP president and former chief minister Mehbooba Mufti also expressed her grief. Taking to twitter, Mehbooba condoled the demise. “Saddened to hear of the sudden death of Masood Hussain sahab’s father. Condolences to his family & loved ones,” she tweeted.

The Jammu & Kashmir Apni party while extending the condolences expressed solidarity to the family. In a party statement, party chief Syed Altaf Bukhari conveyed condolences with the bereaved family and prayed for eternal peace to the departed soul. “I pray to Almighty Allah to give endurance to the bereaved family members, relatives, friends and acquaintances of Mr Masood Hussain to bear this irreparable loss,” he said.

People’s Conference president Sajad Lone expressed grief and prayed for peace. “Heartfelt condolences to Masood Hussain. His father passed away. May Allah grant him Jannat.”

Mayor Srinagar, Junaid Azim Mattu also condoled the demise. “Heartfelt condolences to Masood Hussain sahib on the demise of his beloved father. Allah (swt) Jannat naseeb karein. Ameen.”

Senior NC leader from Jammu, Ajay Sadhotra in a statement condoled the demise and expressed solidarity with the family and prayed for eternal peace to the departed soul.

Senior NC leader and former MP Muhammad Shafi Uri and NC vice president north Kashmir Dr Sajjad Shafi expressed deep anguish and sorrow over the demise. The duo while conveying condolences to the bereaved family, prayed for peace to the departed soul. “I pray for strength to the family especially senior journalist and Kashmir Life’s editor Masood Hussain to bear this irreparable loss.”

Additional spokesperson of NC, Sarah Hayat Shah also condoled the demise. “My condolences go out to Kashmir Life editor Masood Hussain on the death of his father. May Allah grant him a place in Jannat. Thoughts and prayers with the family.”

Former lawmaker and CPI(M) leader Muhammad Yousuf Tarigami extended sympathies with the bereaved family. In his message, he termed the deceased as “kind and pious soul,” and further said, “I equally share the pain of the bereaved family at this hour of grief.”

Director information Syed Sehrish Asgar condoled the demise. In this connection, a condolence meet was held in the office chambers of director in which all the officers participated. Dr Sehrish and other participants expressed deep sorrow and grief over the demise. She offered condolences to the bereaved family and prayed for eternal peace to the departed soul.

KCSDS in its statement condoled the demise and prayed for the departed soul. “Al the members of KCSDS offer heartfelt condolences to Masood Hussain, the veteran journalist of Life magazine for the heavenly departure of his father. May God grant him the choicest place in Jannah and give Masood sb and his family the strength and courage to bear this bereavement.”

In its statement, Kashmir Editors Guild condoled the demise. Expressing solidarity with the family, KEG in a statement said the late Wani was “highly revered person and a noble soul. KEG stands with Masood Hussain in this hour of grief and expresses solidarity with the family.” Hussain is also secretary-general of the guild.

Expressing grief, Kashmir Press Club also condoled the demise. The management of the club prayed for the peace to the departed soul.

Abdul Aziz Khawaja, deputy director SDA, Maqsood Ahmad Uri, editor shahrebeen radio Kashmir Srinagar, Irshad Ahmad Khawaja and Ummer Rahim or Uri also expressed condolence with the senior journalist.

District administration Shopian in its condolence message expressed solidarity with the family. “Heartfelt condolences to Masood Hussain sb on the sad demise of his beloved father,” DC Shopian Shrikant Suse tweeted.
