SRINAGAR: A court in Jammu has awarded life imprisonment to five persons. The lifer was pronounced by Second Additional Sessions Judge Jammu, Rajinder Sapru in a murder case.

Accused who were convicted of murder include Bashir Ahmed, a resident of Chowadhi, along with his sons Abdul Majeed and Javed Ahmed. Besides, Mohammad Shafi and Rashid Mohammad of Sandhi village of Vijaypur.

They all were convicted in the murder of Shams-ud-Din in a scuffle. They had resorted to firing after trespassing into their house. The two sides were involved in a land dispute that eventually led to the incident.

The case was investigated by Police Station Channi Himmat in Jammu. It was in fact a Special Investigation Team (SIT) that investigated the case and used all the forensic techniques to establish the involvement of the accused.

What is tragic in this story is that the slain Shamsuddin was the real brother of the killer, Bashir Ahmad and uncle to his two sons. Though local elders had tried to settle the dispute, Bashir had never accepted any decision. It eventually led to the murder. Now Bashir will spend a long time in jail including seven in rigorous imprisonment.
