Fearing protests or any untoward incident, authorities on Friday put Hurriyat (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq under house arrest in Srinagar.
Reports said a police party on today morning arrived at the Nigeen residence of the Mirwaiz and placed him under detention.
Earlier the Hurriyat spokesman said that Mirwaiz was scheduled to deliver a sermon on the occasion of Ashoora and pay tributes to Iman Hussain (RA) and Martyrs of Karbala at Alam Sahab, Narwara today from 3.30 to Asr prayers
