Encounter started between militants and government forces Thursday morning at Hardushoora village of Tangmarg in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

While describing the encounter as “fierce”, police officer said a joint team of army personnel and special operations group of police cordoned off the area in search of militants, suspected to be hiding in a house.

“Following specific information about the presence of militants in the area, a joint team of army’s 29 Rajputana Rifles and SOG launched the cordon and search operations at Hardushoora village‎,” a police officer said.

As soon as the joint team of forces intensified their search, he said, the militants opened heavy fire. “The forces retaliated that ensued an encounter.”

The militants are believed to be trapped and no casualties have been reported as of now.
