SRINAGAR: On the third day of FIFA World Cup 2022, Saudi Arabia defeated two-time winner Argentina by 2-1, at the Lusail Stadium, Qatar.

FIFA unveiled the La’eeb (super-skilled player), the Mascot of World Cup 2022 at Qatar on Sunday.

In the first half, Lionel Messi of Argentina scored his first goal in the tenth minute of the game, through a penalty, against Saudi Arabia. He side-foots the ball in the bottom left corner.

With Argentina being 1-0 up at the break, Saudi Arabia did not let the game go out of their hands at halftime.

Just minutes before the second half, Saleh Al Shehri of Saudi Arabia scored a stunning equalizer in the 48th minute, followed by the goal of Salem Al Dawsari, which doubled the lead of the Saudis.

Argentina saw three goals ruled out as offside, one for Messi and two for Lauturo Martinez.

Argentina would have equaled Italy’s record of 37 matches unbeaten, had they avoided the defeat.

There was a ton of excitement and thrill among football fans to watch Lionel Messi, one of their favorite players take the field. This was his fifth and last World Cup.

Hundreds of Saudi fans have taken a victory march in Doha’s traditional market called ‘Souq Waqif’ after their team stunned Argentina. With today’s win, Saudi Arabia topped Group C of the World Cup.

Saudi Arabia will play the remaining two games of the Group Matches with Poland and Mexico.
