At least fifteen persons were killed and many sustained injuries on Saturday after a bus they were traveling in met with an accident in Ramban district of Jammu.

Reports said that around 11:00 in the morning, a minibus (Matador) on way from Ramban to Banihal loss the control and plunged into a deep gorge along the banks of river Chenab in Ramban district of Jammu, resulting into the death of fifteen passengers and injuries to many.

The vehicle bearing registration number JK19-1593 overturned and rolled down about 500ft deep gorge near Kayla mode in Ramban. Soon after the accident, locals with the help of a police team immediately swung into the action and launched a rescue operation.

Earlier an official confirmed that “The death toll is likely above 12, but confirmed reports are yet awaited as rescue operation is in progress.,”

Meanwhile, the national conference vice president and former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir took to his widely followed twitter handle and wrote: “Tragic news of the bus accident in Ramban earlier this morning with more than 15 deaths being reported along with numerous injuries. My heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased & prayers for the injured.”
