Condemning the recent house arrest of its chairman Syed Ali Geelani ,Hurriyat Conference (G), Sunday claimed that the large participation of people in Geelani’s recently held rallies have ‘frustrated’ the authorities.

The statement issued to Kashmir News Service (KNS), mentioned that the recently issued statement of  Chief Minster Omar Abdullah wherein he  had stated that Geelani gets public support when the valley remains under crises and that during rest of the times people do not remember the senior separatist, has been ‘nullified’ by the people and that the large participation of youth in Geelani’s rallies have ‘perturbed’ the authorities.

The party spokesman Ayaz Akbar in the statement has stated that the heavy participation of people in the rallies of the senior separatist rejected the ‘hollow’ claims of those who earlier had claimed that after 2010, people have changed their mindset towards Kashmir’s struggle. “The successful rallies held at Shopian, Kupwara, Sopore and Pulwama not only shook the authorities here but also in Delhi and people of the valley once again prove that they cannot be suppressed under the barrel of the gun.”

Akbar further claimed that Geelani is a leader of masses and that he wants to strive for the just cause in the peaceful manner. “New Delhi’ wants us to remain in suppression and is using state power to break our resolve.” The spokesman further added that those who cannot fight with us politically are using ‘suppressive’ tactics to crush the dissent.

Castigating Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and state congress chief Saif-ud-din Soz, the Huriyat (G) claimed  that the duo cannot even remain on their respective posts for mere one day without the support of police. “If they had the peoples’ support, they might not have arrested Geelani sahib; they could have fought with us politically.”
