SRINAGAR: The final electoral rolls for Jammu and Kashmir will be published on August 20, coinciding with the issuance of the first notification for Assembly elections, Daily Excelsior reported.
The number of voters is expected to approach nine million. Currently, Jammu and Kashmir has 8.7 million registered voters, with the updated figure projected to be between 8.8 million and 8.9 million following the publication.
The Special Summary Revision will conclude with the release of these rolls, which include details of voters segmented by Assembly constituencies. The revised boundaries of many constituencies, resulting from the Delimitation Commission’s work after the increase in seats from 83 to 90, add further significance to this exercise. Key voter statistics include 4.44 million males, 4.26 million females, 169 transgender individuals, and over 3.7 lakh first-time voters. There are 11,838 polling stations across the region, with an average of 735 voters per station.
The first notification for the three-phase Assembly elections covers 24 constituencies. Candidates can file nominations until August 27, with voting for the first phase scheduled for September 18.
