Srinagar

Senior PDP leader Nizamuddin Bhat who was Vice-chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Wakf Board on Friday tendered his resignation.

He submitted his resignation to Governor N N Vohra.

At least 27 political appointees engaged in various boards, corporations or public sector undertakings (PSUs) by the previous PDP-BJP government resigned from their posts.

In tune with the standard operating procedures (SOPs), 25 political appointees have submitted their resignations, which have been accepted by the Governor. The services of two other political appointees were terminated on July 9, a government spokesperson said.

Following the imposition of Governor’s rule last month, the state government had asked all administrative departments to implement the SOPs, leading to the resignation of members and chairpersons of various statutory and non-statutory boards and organisations.

Only Wakf Board vice-chairman Nizamuddin Bhat, who is also a senior leader of the PDP, is yet to resign as his appointment is regulated by Section-9 of the J&K Specified Wakfs and Specified Wakf Properties (Management and Regulation) Act, 2004.
