Fire Damages Scrap Yard in Srinagar

   

SRINAGAR: A major fire broke out at a scrap yard in Mehjoor Nagar area of Srinagar early Wednesday morning, causing extensive damage to the facility, officials of the Fire and Emergency Services said.

The incident was reported to the Fire and Emergency Services (FES) Control Room at Batamaloo at around 4.24 am, following which fire tenders from the FES Headquarters, Fire Station Gowkadal and Fire Station Nowgam were rushed to the spot within minutes. On arrival, the scrap yard was found fully engulfed in flames.

Firefighters immediately launched an intensive operation to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to nearby structures. After sustained efforts, the fire was brought under control.

The operation was conducted under the supervision of senior FES officers, led by Deputy Director Fire and Emergency Services Mir Aqib Hussain, along with Mobilising Officer Aijaz Ahmad Shah.

No casualties were reported in the incident. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, and an investigation has been initiated to determine the circumstances that led to the blaze, officials said.
