A devastating fire on Wednesday gutted at least ten shops at Handwara town in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.

An official said that the fire broke out around 5: 30 in the morning at the main market in Handwara, resulting in complete damage to at least ten shops, however, due to the intervention of locals and firemen the fire was brought under control around 9:00 in the morning.

The official added that all the shops in a tin shed were completely damaged, and the cause of the fire is being ascertained.

Meanwhile, police have taken the cognizance of the case and further investigations are going on.
