SRINAGAR: Residents of Shah Mohalla in Sumbal Bazaar of Bandipora district have raised serious concerns over faulty electricity infrastructure, warning of a potential fire hazard in the busy market area.
Locals said overhead electric wires have snapped on at least two occasions, falling onto shop sunshades and narrowly avoiding damage. “Fortunately, there was no loss this time, but what if such an incident occurs during night hours?” said Noor Mohammad Dar, a shopkeeper.
The issue was discussed at a meeting held on Wednesday, attended by residents, shopkeepers and the owner of a shopping complex. Participants termed the situation “sensitive” and flagged a serious risk of fire incidents and property damage.
Residents said the matter could not be collectively raised earlier due to the observance of Ramzan. They have now urged the authorities to take immediate remedial measures to prevent any untoward incident.
The inhabitants appealed to the Power Development Department (PDD) Sumbal, headed by the Executive Engineer of the division, to address the issue without delay, stating that the recurring problem has caused anxiety and disturbed sleep among locals.
