SRINAGAR: Authorities have banned the sale, purchase and use of firecrackers across Pampore tehsil of Pulwama district, citing growing concerns over environmental pollution, public safety and health hazards.
The order was issued on Sunday by Executive Magistrate 1st Class and Tehsildar Pampore, Malik Aasif Ahmad (JKAS), under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023.
According to the order, the prohibition applies to all types of firecrackers and similar items within the territorial jurisdiction of Pampore tehsil. Any person found selling, purchasing or using firecrackers in violation of the directive will face strict action under the relevant provisions of law.
The order states that the decision follows representations from members of the general public expressing concern over increasing environmental pollution and potential threats to public safety and health caused by firecrackers.
Station House Officers of Pampore and Khrew have been directed to strictly enforce the order within their respective jurisdictions.
