A civilian was injured in a firing incident at the encounter site of Chenigam village in district Kulgam after the encounter ended on Friday afternoon and there are different versions of the same incident each refuting the other.

Locals alleged that just after the encounter ended  forces opened fire to disperse the protesters resulting in bullet injury to a civilian Friday afternoon.

However, police said that another militant opened fire from the debris of the residential house damaged during the encounter resulting in the injuries to 2 army men, 1CRPF personnel and a civilian. “All the three injured were shifted to hospital for treatment,” police spokesman said.

“Police and forces opened fire on the protesters who had gathered on the encounter site and injured Tariq Ahmad Bhat s/o Mohammad Ismail Bhat, a resident of Nabal Batpora,” locals alleged adding “Both the militants had died when the firing incident took place.”
