Srinagar: The first ever music academy was launched on Wednesday in Sopore town of Baramulla district in north Kashmir.

The music academy – VIBRATION 314 – has been started by Tariq Ahmed, a former music teacher with MPhil in Indian classical music, aimed to train students in various fields ranging from vocals to instruments.

Tariq, the owner of the first ever music academy of north Kashmir, described music as “the pinnacle of spirituality”. He said the academy would help contribute to the world of music by imparting training to the students.

“Music is not just singing and dance, it is the education and should be taught to other regular subjects. Students of the academy would learn a range of musical instruments besides learning vocals”, Tariq said.

Tariq, a Prasar Bharti approved artist, has previously performed internationally at Australia, Sri Lanka and Pakistan besides travelling throughout India.

Earlier he was part of Kashmir’s first band Valley Boys and Jankar Beats of famous singer-composer Shafi Sopori.

VIBRATION 314 – Academy of Music is located opposite Kathi Junction Sopur near Sanctorum School Sopore.

It was inaugurated by political activist and youth Congress spokesperson Sheikh Aamir. He was the chief guest on the occasion. Other dignitaries present were Shakir Ashraf,  chairman Sanctorum Institutes, Zahoor Hygami noted poet and president Bazme Adab Sangrama, Mohammad Ramzan administrator Sanctorum higher secondary school, JKTF general secretary Saleem Sagar besides a range of citizens and students.

Speaking on the occasion, Sheikh Aamir said that such institutes serve as a proper platform for the budding artists to harness and hone their talent.

“This is a courageous step to start a music academy in Sopore town. This academy should establish itself as a regular educational institute so that aspiring and budding artists get proper training and platform” Aamir said.

Speaking on the occasion, Chairman of Sanctorum Institutes Shakir Ashraf said that achievements shown by youngsters in the field of music and other activities are a testimony to the talented pool of the north Kashmir. He exhorted upon the youth to get themselves into such institutes to develop their music skills.
