Polling ended peacefully Tuesday in 15 assembly constituencies in Jammu and Kashmir that voted in the first phase of the five-phase assembly elections, officials said.

They added that no major incident of violence has been reported from anywhere.

Sources said that over 65 percent turnout was recorded however final overall percentage will be announced later.

“The percentage was likely to change as the final figures are yet to be received,” officials said.

Although polling ended at 4 p.m., voters who entered the polling station by that time are entitled to vote.

A total of 12 sitting MLAs, including seven ministers, were among 123 candidates whose fate was sealed in the Electronic Voting Machines (EVM’s).

The Assembly segments which went to polls in the first phase include Gurez, Bandipora, Sonawari, Kangan and Ganderbal (in Kashmir), Bhaderwah, Ramban and Banihal (in Jammu division); and Nobra, Leh, Kargil and Zanskar (in Ladakh).
