SRINAGAR: Doctors at the Sub District Hospital in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district performed an advanced laparoscopic surgery on a 60-year-old female patient suffering from Triple Compartment Prolapse on Friday.

An official said that the patient, who had Rectal Prolapse, Uterine Prolapse, and Cystocele, sought medical attention at SDH Kupwara two weeks ago.

“Under the skilled hands of the surgical team, led by Dr Rayees Ahmad Dar, a Consultant in Colorectal, General, and Laparoscopic Surgery, the patient underwent Laparoscopic Ventral Mesh Rectopexy with Sacro Colpopexy,” he said.

Notably, this marks the first instance of such a procedure being performed at the Sub District or District Hospital level in Jammu and Kashmir.

Traditionally, this complex surgery is conducted at renowned institutions like SKIMS Soura and SMHS Hospital.

He said that the surgical team, comprising Dr Sanjay and Dr Anil (Postgraduate Surgery students), along with supporting staff Firdous, Shahzad, and Tariq, demonstrated exceptional expertise.

The official said that the anaesthesia team, led by Dr Farooq Ahmad Khan, ensured a smooth intraoperative and postoperative course.

The entire procedure was conducted under the guidance of HOD Surgery, Dr Arshid Ahmad, he added.

Medical Superintendent Dr Muhammad Shafi Mir not only provided crucial logistic support but also extended heartfelt congratulations to the surgical team for their remarkable achievement in the field of General Surgery.
