SRINAGAR: An Indian Air Force (IAF) convoy was fired upon by militants in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district on Saturday, injuring five members of the force, security officials said.

The attack occurred at Sanai village in Surankote. Reinforcements from the Indian Army and police were rushed to the area to ascertain the details.

The Army and police were engaged in the operations against militants  involved in the incident.

The local Rashtriya Rifles unit began cordon and search operations in the area, officials said. The Indian Air Force Garud Special Forces have been positioned in the area where the attack occurred.

The vehicles were secured inside the airbase in the general area near Shahsitar, the Indian Air Force said.

“An Indian Air Force vehicle convoy was attacked by militants in the Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir, near Shahsitar. Cordon and search operations are presently underway in the area by local military units. The convoy has been secured, and further investigation is under progress,” the Indian Air Force tweeted.

The injured troops were airlifted to Command Hospital in Udhampur for treatment.
