Five passengers were killed and three others suffered injuries in a road accident when a Tata Sumo in which they were traveling in skidded off the road and turned turtle in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district on Sunday.

A vehicle (Sumo) (JK01F-9547) was on its way to Gurez from Kangan when it met with an accident at Tragbal area of Gurez and fell down into a deep gorge.

In the mishap, five passengers died on the spot while as three others suffered injuries and were evacuated to nearby hospital for treatment where the condition of one person is stated to be serious, he said.

The bodies were taken to the hospital for medical-legal medical formalities including postmortem, he said.

“A case under relevant sections of law has been registered and further investigations were taken up,” the officer said.

Reports said the slain four included Sajad Faheem , a school teacher, who lives in Badogam (Gurez). He was posted in Hariganwan Ganderbal where he had rented a premises. He was on his way home along with his wife and two children. The teacher’s family was annihilated by the road accident.
