Five people were killed and four others injured in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district Thursday when a passenger vehicle rolled down a deep gorge, nearly 300 feet deep, at Z-Gali on the Machail-Kupwara Road, sources said.

They added that the Tata Sumo passenger vehicle was coming from the Machail to Kupwara when its driver lost control over it.

Relief and rescue teams have rushed to the accident site, sources added.

The deceased have been identified as Hashim Jan wife of Mohammad Yaseen Tantry resident of Chottwari, Saleema daughter of Mohammad Yousf Tantry resident of Chottwari, Zameer Ahmad Hadi son of Ghulam Ahmad resident of Chottwari, Humunin Sharma resident of Rajasthan and Abdul Rashid Cheche son of Mir Alam resident of Sarkul Kalarooch.
