Five Houses, Two Structures Damaged in Massive Fire

   

SRINAGAR: A massive fire broke out in the Shalkote Rafiabad area of Sopore in north Kashmir on Monday morning, resulting in the destruction of seven structures including five residential houses, belonging to the minority Sikh community.

Quoting an official, KNO reported that the loss of property is estimated to be in lakhs of rupees.

He said police, locals, and the Army responded quickly to the scene to help douse off the flames, with help from the Fire & Emergency Department. “Fortunately, no lives were lost in the incident, but at least five families have been left homeless,” he said, adding that the cause of the fire remains unknown and is currently under investigation.

Residents affected by the fire include Baldev Singh son of Maya Singh, Deedar Singh son of Maya Singh, Mangat Singh, Iqbal Singh and Charan Singh sons of Maya Singh and Karnail Singh son of Fakir Singh – each of whom is currently residing in the Shalkote Rafiabad area.

In response to the tragic incident, the Additional Deputy Commissioner Sopore S A Raina expressed condolences to the victims and pledged to provide all possible assistance.

The Tehsildar Rafiabad and Naib Tehsildar were instructed to submit the victims’ relief cases immediately, and the Executive Engineer/AEE R&B Rafiabad was instructed to assess the damage for timely disbursement of relief under SDRF.

Meanwhile, fire victims have been temporarily shifted to the nearby Panchayat Ghar and a school while alternative accommodations are being arranged, the official said, adding that the Tehsil Supply Officer (TSO) Rohama has also been directed to assist the victims—(KNO)
