SRINAGAR: The President of India has conferred 36 Gallantry Awards, including 10 Kirti Chakras and 26 Shaurya Chakras, recognising the outstanding bravery and sacrifice of individuals in service.
Among the awardees are five officers from the Jammu and Kashmir Police, honoured for their exceptional valour and dedication to duty.
Jammu and Kashmir Police wrote on X: “For the first time in the history of Jammu and Kashmir Police, five Shaurya Chakras have been bestowed upon five JKP officers and Personnel for their courage and bravery while serving the nation. The Hon’ble President of India, Smt.Droupadi Murmu,conferred the Shaurya Chakra upon SgCt. Saif Ullah Qadri (posthumously), DySP (now SP) Mohan Lal,SI Amit Raina, SI Feroz Ahmed,and Ct Varun Singh of Jammu and Kashmir Police at Rashtrapati Bhavan today. Hon’ble President also conferred Shaurya Chakra on VDC member Shri Parshotam Kumar of Rajouri.”

Selection Grade Constable Saifullah Qadri, a well-known encounter specialist, was posthumously awarded the Shaurya Chakra for his bravery in numerous gun battles with terrorists. His most notable act of valour occurred during the Bhishember Nagar operation in Srinagar, where he displayed exemplary courage.
Sub-Inspector Amit Raina was recognised for his significant contributions to counter-militancy operations in the region. During an operation in January 2022 in Srinagar, displaying utmost courage in the face of the enemy, he left his cover without caring for his life. He advanced towards the miilitant and in a face-to-face gunfight, neutralised him.
Sub-Inspector Faroz Ahmad Dar was awarded for his courage and effectiveness in handling critical security situations. During an operation in Srinagar in January 2022, he took the lead in eliminating a militant while ensuring the safety and security of the civilians in the area.
Constable Varun Singh was honoured for his commitment and bravery in crucial operations. Constable Singh played a key role in counter-terrorism efforts, while superintendent of Police (SP) Mohan Lal was acknowledged for his leadership and gallantry.
While lauding the courage and bravery of these gallant officers DGP, RR Swain congratulated the officers and their families. In his message the DGP JK said, “The brave officers and officials have brought honour and glory to the JKP parivar with their dedication,devotion, and service to the nation has been recognised at highest level.This recognition shows the exemplary commitment of the one of the finest Police forces of the country,” the DGP added.
The Ministry of Defence had announced Shaurya Chakras to these bravehearts on Independence Day 2023 and Republic Day 2024.
