SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Tuesday booked five notorious drug peddlers under PIT NDPS Act in Handwara and Sopore areas of north Kashmir after obtaining formal detention orders from competent authority.

“In Handwara, two notorious drug peddlers identified as Prince Parvaiz Hanji son of Parvaiz Ah Hanji resident of Maratgam and Hillal Ah Dar son of Ab Rehman resident of Chogul have been booked under PIT-NDPS Act after obtaining formal detention orders from the competent authority,” a police spokesperson said in a statement.

“Moreover, Police in Sopore booked three drug smugglers identified as Aadil Ashraf Khan son of Mohammad Ashraf Khan resident of Pethseer Sopore, Aaqib Nissar Gojree son of Nissar Ahmad Gojree resident of Batpora A/P Model Town Sopore and Bashir Ahmad Dar son of Zaffar Ahmad Dar resident of Bunpora Dangerpora Sopore under PIT-NDPS after obtaining formal detention orders from competent authority,” the police said.

The police said that the booked drug peddlers have been detained and subsequently lodged in Central Jail Kot-Balwal Jammu.

Pertinent to mention here that many cases are registered against the said drug peddlers and were involved in promoting drug abuse trade by supplying drugs to local youth in their districts.

“Despite their involvement in many FIRs, they did not mend their activities and were again involved in promoting drug abuse trade by supplying drugs to local youth,” the police added.
