SRINAGAR: Flash floods triggered by incessant rainfall struck Guridraman village in the Larnoo area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Wednesday, causing panic among residents and prompting an emergency response from the administration.
According to officials, the flash floods hit the village during the afternoon following heavy rainfall. Several students were inside a local school when floodwaters entered the area. They were safely rescued by local residents before the situation could worsen.
The extent of damage to property or infrastructure was not immediately known, and officials said an assessment is underway.
Police, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and officials from the local administration rushed to the affected area to carry out rescue and relief operations.
Deputy Commissioner Anantnag, Bilal Mohi-ud-Din, said the administration was verifying the incident and had deputed a team to the site to assess the situation.
