The situation in the state had not reached a point where AFSPA can be revoked. I have no hesitation in saying that we wanted to reach a position where we could revoke the AFSPA from some areas of the state. But, unfortunately, we have not reached that point yet (Aug 15)

It is a draconian law which has outlived its importance. Time has come to revoke it and we believe there is ample opportunity to address both the concerns of armed forces while still allowing us to go ahead with the position that we have taken. (Sept 21)

We would like this report to come in the public domain as quickly as possible … All the recommendations of this report have to be seen together in relation to each other, they are one interlocking set of measures. We would like it to be implemented in total. (Jan 13)

I proposed in the executive meeting that the Hurriyat should delay the Pakistan visit for some time as Pakistan was engaged in elections. Hurriyat should first set its house in order and then decide on the Pak visit. The visit would not produce anything as Kashmir was not a priority with the Pakistan government (Nov 13).

I have submitted relevant papers to the passport officer in Srinagar and hope that I would be allowed to travel by the bus to Muzaffarabad. (After his meeting with Pakistan High Commissioner Salman Bashir on November 19 in New Delhi)

“India is attempting to create Amaranth Nagar in Pahalgam in the garb of construction of metalled road and huts on way to the Amaranth cave shrine. We reiterate our demand that Shrine Board be disbanded and the yatra affairs be handed over to Kashmiri Pandits failig which we will launch an agitation after Eid-ul-Azha” (Oct 18)

We will form a committee which will reach out to a cross section of the society including other groups, trade union leaders and civil society members before announcing the future course of action (on agitation) ..(Oct 31)
