Flood Declared In Jhelum As Water Level Crosses Danger Mark

   

SRINAGAR: Authorities in Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday declared a flood in River Jhelum after its water level crossed the danger mark at Sangam in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district following days of incessant rainfall.

According to an official communication issued by the Flood Control Division, Anantnag, the river was flowing above the flood declaration mark of 21.66 feet at 2:30 am. “In view of the rise in the water level of River Jhelum caused by continuous heavy rainfall and increased inflow since the intervening night of August 25, 26 and 27, 2025, and after careful assessment of the situation, flood is declared in River Jhelum as it has crossed the danger mark at Sangam gauge,” the notice read.

Meanwhile, in view of prevailing weather conditions, Jhelum water levels at Ram Munshi Bagh in Srinagar have crossed the alert level. Officials said field teams are closely monitoring the situation and contingency plans are in place. The Divisional Commissioner of Kashmir has advised people to exercise caution and not venture near water bodies.
