In wake of incessant rainfall and increasing water level in river Jhelum, a team of Ministers comprising Minister for Law, Justice, Relief and Rehabilitation, Syed Basharat Ahmad Bukhari, Minister of State for Forest, PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control Abdul Majeed Padder and Minister of State, for PDD, Industries and Commerce, Mohammad Ashraf Mir Thursday conducted an extensive tour of Srinagar City and took stock of the situation arisen due to incessant rains.

The team visited several areas of city including Raj Bagh, Bemina, Safakadal, Lal Chowk Bund, Ram Munshi Bagh, Lal Mandi, Ram Bagh and other areas. The Ministers inspected various flood prone sites around Jhelum and inspected protection bunds which were breached in September 2014 deluge and caused major destruction, an official statement said this evening.

The Ministers directed Irrigation and Flood Control Department to keep all men and machinery alert to deal with any untoward situation. They also asked district administration to remain vigilant and stressed them to be at the beck and call of the people whenever required so that they do not face any problem. They further directed for ensuring availability of sand bags and dewatering pumps at the required places so that movement of public is not hampered. They also instructed concerned authorities to ensure availability of rescue boats.
