Senior Leader of Hurriyat Conference and Chairperson of his JKLF faction, Javaid Ahmad Mir, while reflecting on the first anniversary of devastating floods stated that it was the valour of people of Kashmir, local organizations and resistance leadership who took lead in relief and rescue efforts without caring for their own lives.

“Celebrations on eve of first anniversary of flood tantamount to spilling salt into wounds of flood hit victims observed that State Government along with bureaucracy had gone absent and emerged only after two months at time of elections,” Mir said in a statement issued on Monday afternoon.

He said, “it is duty of resistance leadership to awaken the global community how during floods the nation of Kashmir was left to fend for it selves and even international aid was curbed.”

He added, “the nation of Kashmir applying slogan of self-help and local groups helped the nation of Kashmir overcome this, and Mirwaiz Umar Farooq led the reconstruction of devastated houses and this coupled with relief goods sent by Pirpanjal, Chenab and North Kashmir region did not let this nation down at crucial juncture.”
