Family of Hizb-ul-Mujahideen militant Tawseef Sheikh from Rampora village of Qaimoh area in Kulgam district on Thursday alleged that forces during the intervening night of July 26-27 barged into their house and thrashed the inmates.

The family members said that forces initially came at around midnight and jumped over the fence. However, they said, after women raised alarm, villagers came out from their homes and assembled outside the house. “This triggered clashes between people and force,” a neighbour of Tawseef said.

The villagers pelted stones on the forces, forcing them to leave.

Later, a family member said, the forces came after couple of hours and started direct teargas shelling from three sides. “They barged inside and started beating all the inmates including female members,” a family member speaking to Kashmir Life said. “Among the beaten was a fifteen-day nursing mother and a three year old baby,” the family member said. “They were ruthless.”

The family members were later rushed to nearby health centre for immediate treatment.

The family also alleged that men in uniform damaged their property during the nocturnal raid.

Soon after the news about the thrashing of Tawseef’s family at the hands of forces spread, shopkeepers pulled down their shutters in the nearby Qaimoh and Khudwani areas, reports said.
