Srinagar

Forces on Saturday resorted to aerial firing and teargas shelling to quell the protests in Islamabad town in southern Kashmir.

Scores of protesters in Lal Chowk town resorted to stone pelting on forces who fired in air and used tear gas shells to disperse the protesters, local sources said.

The protesters were protesting what they called highhandedness of the police.

Earlier, youth staged protests against alleged excesses of police in the area.

Meanwhile, traders who have staged a sit-in in Reshi Bazar have warned of an indefinite strike.

They are demanding the transfer of SHO Sadder Police Station who they alleged was harassing the traders and locals.
