The areas falling around Foreshore Road in Srinagar are observing a complete shutdown Saturday against the demolition derives carried by Lakes and Waterways Development Authority (LAWDA).
Report said that people from Nishat, Telbal, Naseem Bagh are observing hartal againt the move.
“We are protesting against the demolition drive,” said Mushtaq Ahmad, a resident of Nishat. “We are not being allowed to carry any construction or anything like that as we fall near Green Belt zone.”
To press for their demand, a series of clashes broke out between police and people that disrupted the traffic movement. In view of unabated clashes, police had to close the road for some time,
The shutdown and subsequent clashes impacted participation of people in Buyer-Seller Meeting, a major handicraft event in a year, at SKICC Srinagar.
Meanwhile, the residents alleged that they are being evacuated from their homes.
