Reiterating resolve of his party to restore sanctity of all democratic institutions in Jammu and Kashmir, patron of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) Mufti Mohammad Sayeed Saturday said that PDP is the only party which has been playing important as well as historical role in the politics of the state.
He said that formation of PDP was a turning point in the political history of the Jammu and Kashmir because the party has restored peoples’ faith in democracy. He said that formation of PDP-Congress government after the 2002 assembly elections had also changed political discourse of the State.
Addressing a one day convention of prominent party workers in Jammu province on Saturday, Sayeed said that even after 2008 assembly elections it is only the PDP which has been pursuing visionary agenda for establishing lasting peace and tranquility.
“It is the result of the convictions and vision of our party that PDP has earned credibility and trust of the people of Jammu and Kashmir,” he said.
He added that his party has scripted a new chapter of peace and development in Jammu and Kashmir and successfully implemented the pro-people agenda.
Highlighting achievements of the previous PDP-Congress regime, he said, “Our party had convinced successive governments at Delhi, through our convictions, to initiate some bold Confidence Building Measures (CBMs) to restore lasting peace in this region.”
Sayeed alleged that during the last nearly four years the present regime has eroded and undermined all prestigious democratic institutions- be it Assembly, local bodies or Panchayati Raj Institutions.
Pointing towards inordinate delay in holding civic bodies elections without any reasons, he reminded the gathering that it was during the PDP led regime that elections of civic bodies were held after a gap of more than two decades.
