SRINAGAR: Jahangir Mir, former Director General of Youth Services and Sports breathed his last at chest disease hospital Dalgate in Srinagar at 2:00 am today after a brief illness. He was 66.

Family sources said the Nimaz-e-Jinazah of Mir was held at 12 noon at friends Enclave, Airport Road, Humhama. The Fateha Khawani has been scheduled for July 25, at 10 am at Friends Enclave Graveyard.

People from all walks of life participated in his funeral prayers.

Mir was born at Gulgam Kupwara and is survived by his wife and two sons. He also served as Deputy commissioner Kulgam.

Condoling the demise, former chief ministers and National Conference president and vice president Dr Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah expressed their grief, sympathies with the bereaved family.

“They prayed for peace to the departed soul in the highest stations of the Jannat and forbearance to the bereaved to bear the irreparable loss,” read a party statement.

Party GS Ali Muhammad Sagar, MP Muhammad Akbar Lone, Choudary Muhammad Ramzan, Qaisar Jamsheed Lone, Showkat Ahmed Mir, Salman Ali Sagar, Farooq Shah, Nazir Malik participated in the Namaz-e-Jinazah of the deceased at Friends Enclave, Humhama, the statement added.

MP Hasnain Masoodi in his condolence message offered glowing tributes to Jehangir Mir. He recollected his honest work as a bureaucrat and said his passing away has created a big void. Masoodi prayed for peace to departed and much needed strength to bereaved.

J&K Peoples Conference President Sajad Gani Lone also condoled the sad demise of former bureaucrat Jehangir Mir and expressed heartfelt sympathies with his family.
Sajad remembered Jehangir Mir as an excellent human being and a vibrant officer.
