Former Deputy Commissioner Kupwara was on Monday convicted under provisions of Prevention of Corruption Act and for criminal breach of trust by a government employee under RPC in a case registered against him in 2004.

The Special Judge Anti-Corruption Court Srinagar, R N Wattal sentenced the former deputy commissioner Shah Lateef to one-year imprisonment and a fine of Rs.2 lakh under Section 5(1)(C) P.C. Act.

“In default thereof, he will further undergo 6 months of imprisonment.”

Under section 409 RPC, the court also sentenced him to one-year imprisonment and Rs.2 lakhs of fine. “In default of payment thereof he will further undergo 6 months imprisonment u/s 409 RPC,” the court added, according to news agency GNS.

Gulam Jeelani CPO and Riaz Ahmad Senior PO, pleaded the case on behalf of the Anti Corruption Bureau.

The FIR (No. 18/2004) was filed in 2004 against accused for embezzlement of an amount of Rs.178702.
