SRINAGAR: Sheikh Hafeez Akhtar, a former Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Kashmir and Ladakh, passed away in Srinagar after a prolonged illness. A highly respected officer, he was known for his honesty and dedication to the region. His death has deeply saddened administrative and police circles.
He was the father of Sheikh Sarmad Hafeez, Commissioner Secretary of Youth Services and Sports, Jammu and Kashmir. His brother, Dr Shibli, and cousin, Sheikh Junaid Mehmood, DIG, are also among the bereaved.
Condolences poured in from officials, colleagues, and civil society members. His funeral is expected to witness a large turnout as Kashmir bids farewell to a distinguished officer.
