SRINAGAR: Prof Syed Ashaq Hussain Naqshbandi, former Principal and Dean of Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar and ex-Head of the Department of Surgery at SMHS Hospital, passed away early Saturday after a prolonged illness.
Namaz-e-Janaza was offered today at 11 am at the graveyard of Naqashband Sahib shrine in Nowhatta.
Prof Naqshbandi, who was also the maternal uncle of Dr Syed Abid Rashid Shah, Secretary Health and Medical Education Jammu and Kashmir, was regarded as a distinguished surgeon and academician. He was widely respected in the medical fraternity for his contributions to surgery and medical education in Jammu and Kashmir.
