Mufti, who has been actively reconnecting with communities over the past month, confirmed his return to public engagement. “I have started interacting with my people,” he said, while clarifying that he is not currently aligned with any political party.

Sajad Mufti began his political journey in 2014 by joining the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), founded by his uncle, late Mufti Muhammad Sayeed. Known for his dynamic presence, Mufti quickly became a recognized face of the party in South Kashmir. To focus fully on public service, he voluntarily stepped down from the IFS at the time.

After a period of returning to government service in 2020, Mufti most recently retired in June 2025 as Chief Conservator of Forests and Chief Wildlife Warden, Ladakh. His return to the public sphere is seen as a welcome step, bringing experience, dedication, and a fresh perspective to the region. (KNO)
