SRINAGAR: Former Jammu and Kashmir minister and political leader Ghulam Hassan Khan died after a prolonged illness in south Kashmir’s Shopian district on Saturday evening.
Khan, a former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader, was elected to the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly in 2002 and later served as Minister of State for Social Welfare.
He subsequently parted ways with the PDP and contested the 2008 Assembly elections as an independent candidate.
Khan’s death has been mourned by political leaders and others in the region.
He will be laid to rest at his ancestral graveyard in Shopian.
