A noted Urdu poet and former vice chancellor of the University of Kashmir Professor Hamidi Kashmiri passed away on Wednesday late evening in Srinagar.

Former KU vice chancellor passed away late last night in Srinagar

Reports said that Kashmiri was unwell and breathed his last at his residence in Srinagar late last night.

In 2005, Kashmiri received a Ghalib Award and Sahitya Akademi Award. He was also honoured by the Government of India with the third highest civilian award of Padma Shri in 2010. Kashmiri is the author of around fifty books.

Meanwhile, former power development department (PDD) commissioner, A K Raina breathed his last in Jammu.
