SRINAGAR: Former legislator and senior political leader Syed Asgar Ali rejoined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Srinagar on Friday in the presence of party president Mehbooba Mufti.
Ali, a former MLC from Kishtwar, had resigned from the PDP on February 21, 2019, after serving as one of its senior-most leaders and as a member of the party’s Political Affairs Committee.
He subsequently joined the National Conference in 2019.
Welcoming his return, Mehbooba described Ali’s rejoining as significant for the PDP in Jammu and Kashmir.
Ali, who hails from Kishtwar, had held a senior position in the PDP’s organisational and political structure before leaving the party.
He is the father of IAS officer Syed Sehrish Asgar.
