SRINAGAR: Former President Pranab Mukherjee on Monday said that he has tested positive for coronavirus.

In a tweet, former President of India Pranab Mukherjee urged all those, who have come in contact with him in the last week, to isolate themselves as a precaution and get tested for COVID-19. The outbreak has affected over 22 lakh people in the country.

“On a visit to the hospital for a separate procedure, I have tested positive for COVID19 today. I request the people who came in contact with me in the last week, to please self isolate and get tested for COVID-19. #CitizenMukherjee,” .

Minutes after Pranab Mukherjee posted the tweet, wishes for his speedy recovery poured on social media.

“Concerned to hear about Former President Pranab Mukherjee Da testing positive for #COVID19. My prayers are with him & his family during this time and I wish him a speedy recovery,” West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee wrote on Twitter.

“Please take care sir. We are praying for your speedy recovery and good health @CitiznMukherjee (sic),” Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal tweeted.

“Sir, wishing you a speedy recovery and a long & healthy life,” Ajay Maken, ex-Delhi Congress chief tweeted.

“I pray for the well being and speedy recovery of Shri Pranab Mukherjee. I am confident he will be successful in recovering from the virus quickly. Wishing him strength and good health,” Union Minister Piyush Goyal tweeted.

“Wishing Former President Shri. Pranab Mukherjee a speedy recovery from COVID-19 and good health (sic),” Karnataka Congress leader DK Shivakumar wrote.

Several top politicians in India, including Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan,  Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa, Congress leader Siddaramaiah, have tested positive for coronavirus in the last few weeks.
