SRINAGAR: Gazanfar Ali, former Commissioner of the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) and senior KAS officer, passed away on Thursday.

Reports said, Ali breathed his last this afternoon after a brief illness. He was residing in Srinagar.
A seasoned administrator, Ali held several key positions during his service career, including Commissioner of SMC, where he was appreciated for his efforts to streamline civic services and improve urban governance in Srinagar. He also served as Additional Deputy Commissioner and held various other positions in the J&K administration.
Known as a soft-spoken and upright officer, Ali earned the respect of his colleagues and the general public for his people-friendly approach and dedication to public service.
Soon after the news of his demise spread, condolences poured in from different quarters. Several serving and retired officers, political leaders and civil society members expressed grief over his death, describing it as a major loss to the administrative fraternity.
They prayed for eternal peace to the departed soul and strength to the bereaved family to bear the irreparable loss.
Meanwhile, family sources said the Nimaz-e-Janaza and last rites will be held at his native graveyard. Further details will be shared shortly. (GNS)
