SRINAGAR: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW)of the Crime Branch Kashmir has secured the conviction of former Sub-Inspector Jagdesh Singh, son of Kartar Singh, resident of Atina, Budgam, in a case involving the manipulation of official records to unlawfully extend his service period.
According to officials, the case was registered under FIR No. 32/2013 under Sections 420, 468, 471, and 201 of the Ranbir Penal Code (RPC). Investigations revealed that Singh had altered his year of birth from 1957 to 1959 in his service documents, including his Character Roll and matriculation certificate, to fraudulently gain two additional years in service.
During the trial, the prosecution presented substantial documentary evidence and witness testimonies establishing Singh’s guilt. After examining the material on record, the Hon’ble Court of City Judge, Srinagar, convicted him under Sections 420, 511, and 468 RPC.
The court sentenced Singh to three years’ simple imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 under Section 420 read with 511 RPC, and an additional three years’ imprisonment with a fine of Rs 5,000 under Section 468 RPC. In case of default in payment, he will undergo an additional six months’ simple imprisonment.. The sentences will run concurrently.
The Economic Offences Wing reiterated its resolve to ensure that cases involving fraud, forgery, and corruption are investigated thoroughly and prosecuted in accordance with the law, regardless of the accused’s position or rank.
