SRINAGAR: Police in Jammu and Kashmir have intensified crackdown on drug trafficking, detaining four habitual drug peddlers in Budgam under the PIT-NDPS Act and arresting two others in Anantnag with the recovery of contraband substances.
“In Budgam, four repeat offenders were detained under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT-NDPS) Act. The accused have been identified as Sakeena Bano, wife of Suraj-u-Din Khan, resident of Khan Mohalla Gopalpora Chadoora; Ghulam Hassan Sheikh, son of Abdul Gani Sheikh, resident of Yarikha Khansahib; Sajad Ahmad Wani, son of Ghulam Mohammad Wani, resident of Nowhar Chadoora; and Khurshid Ahmad Mir, son of Ghulam Mohammad Mir, resident of Khansahib,” police said.
According to police, the four individuals were involved in repeated drug-related offences and targeted local youth. Following formal detention orders, they were lodged in different jails as per legal procedure.
In Anantnag, two drug peddlers were arrested in separate operations in Bijbehara and Sangam. A police team from Police Station Bijbehara, during a checkpoint near Dupatyar Crossing, intercepted Mohd Yousuf Mir, son of Gh Ahmad Mir, resident of Dupatyar, and recovered 1 kg of charas powder from his possession.
In a separate operation, Police Post Sangam arrested Manzoor Ahmad Dar, son of Wali Mohammad Dar, resident of Nati Pora Sangam, during a checkpoint at Nati Pora Sangam Bund. A charas-like substance weighing 1.29 kg was seized from his possession.
Cases under relevant sections of law have been registered in both incidents, and investigations are underway.
