SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir police on Saturday claimed to have booked 04 notorious drug peddlers under Public Safety Act (PSA) after obtaining formal detention orders from the competent authority.

A police spokesman in a statement said that the four notorious drug peddlers have been identified as Mudasir Ah Dar @Suriya son of Mohd Ashraf Dar resident of Namlabal Pampore, Umar Noor @Umgoola son of Noor Mohd Bhat, Umar Reyaz Ganaie@ Jan Watab son of Reyaz Ah Ganaie and Sameer Ah Bhat @Sameer Kachroo son of Ali Mohd Bhat, all residents of Wuyan Pampore.

“It is pertinent to mention that the above drug peddlers were involved in NDPS cases registered in various Police Stations of Police District Awantipora and were promoting drug abuse trade by supplying drugs to local youth,”  said the spokesman.

He said that despite their involvement in many FIRs, these drug peddlers did not mend their activities and were again promoting drug abuse trade by supplying drugs to local youth.

“Subsequently, the cases were duly processed and after obtaining sanctions from the competent authority, the arrested drug peddlers were detained under Public Safety Act and have been lodged in Kot-Balwal Jail Jammu,” he added.

“Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace,” said police spokesman in a statement.
